Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to study public participation in the prevention and
suppression of crime in Pattaya, Chonburi, and to determine the sample mean difference between
the compared groups towards public participation in the prevention and suppression in Pattaya,
Chonburi. Questionnaire was employed as a research tool. Descriptive statistics such as
frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used in this study. For hypothesis
testing, t-Test was employed for an independent variable namely sex. One-way ANOVA was
employed for five independent variables namely age, marital status, educational level, occupation,
and income with the statistical significance level of .05 or 95% of corresponding confidence level.
The findings of the research entitled public participation in the prevention and
suppression of crime in the Pattaya Area, Chonburi province indicated that;
Part 1: The majority of participants were female accounting for 69.1%. Most of them
are at the cohort of age between 21-30 years old (35.3%). About 53.8% of the respondents were
married. Approximately 48.8% of them obtained bachelor degree. The majority of the
respondents have worked as government officers/public enterprises employees accounting for
26.2%. The average income of the respondents was between 21,001-25,000 Baht a month
(37.7%). Finally, most of them (64.2%) have been living in Pattaya, Chonburi for 6-10 years.
Part 2: The survey on public participation in the prevention and suppression of crime in
Pattaya, Chonburi indicated that the respondents had a high level of public participation
(x̄ = 3.74).
