Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate illegal lottery buying behavior among the
vocational training housewife in Chonburi province. The research design adopted the mixed
method: quantitative and qualitative. The questionnaire were used to collect quantitative data
from 350 samples drawn from the housewife population through purposive and voluntary
sampling methods. The qualitative approach applied semi-structured interviews guideline with 5
key informants. The quantitative analysis adopted descriptive statistics, F-test (One-way
ANOVA) and Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA).. The content analysis technique was
applied for the qualitative data.
The research findings indicated that the housewife had high level of involvement in
illegal lottery purchasing behavior. The analysis also showed high positive relationships between
the behavior of buying illegal lottery and legal lottery, that was the housewife who had purchased
illegal lottery also purchased illegal lottery. The results of F-test showed that all of personal
factors, namely, age, marital status, education, personal income and household income, were
significant for behavior. The results of multiple regression analysis (MRA) revealed that, among
6 predicted factors, there were 4 significant factors effecting behavior. The highest influence
factor was characteristic of illegal lottery that easy to access, followed by factor of seller; trust
and temptation, motivation of purchaser, and denial of being trouble family, respectively.
Whereas the rest 2 factors; condemnation of the condemners and appealing to housewife group
loyalty, were not significant. The qualitative findings consistent with the qualitative. The study
provided recommendations for implementation and for further research.
