Abstract:
This research aims to1) conduct an analysis of suitable component for the production
of natural fibers from sugarcane leaves, 2) experiment and test fibers from sugarcane leaves, and
3) study the prototypes of woven fabric from sugar cane leaf and creating handicraft product
prototypes, as well as testing their physical properties with industry standards.
It was found that sugarcane variety LK92-11 plant at the age of 6-8 months would
yield 5-6 usable leaves per plant. The average width of leaves is 7 cm, average length 1 -1.20 m.
The suitable concentration of bio-fermented water was at 80 percent, diluted with 50 liters of water
per 10 kg of fresh coreless sugarcaneleaf, immersed for 4 months. The yield of fiber after
fermentation was up 4.5 kg. The fiber was transformed by boiling in 10 liters of water with 200
grams of sodium hydroxide, at 100 degrees Celsius for an hour. The transformation reduced the
fiber yielfd to 2.5 kg.
In the experiment to find the most suitable ratio between sugarcane leaf fiber and
cocoon fiber, the researcher used the ratio of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% then used the rim to
transform the fiber mixture into fluff before threading. It was found that fiber mixture from these
ratios can produce yarns no. 210, 189, 311, and 230.40 in Tex system. Furthermore, when the
sugarcane leaf fiber was mixed with cotton fibers with the ratio of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%, the
fiber mixtures from these ratios produced yarns no. 208.20, 377.40, 323.20, and 285 in Tex
system. In addition, the fiber mixture consisted of sugar cane leaf fiber, cocoon fiber, and cotton
fiber in the ratio of 20:20, 20:40, 20:60, 40:20, 40:40, 60:20 could produce yarns no. 138.20,
228.60, 394, 434.20, 201, and544.80 in Tex system.For the industrial standard testing of the
woven sugarcane fiber, the maximum results were found from different formula as following. The
maximum tear resistance of 32.965 was found from the 3rd formula. The maximum pulling forces
of yarn along the weft thread of 6.79 Newton and the speeds of the stretch at 27.03 mm. was
found from the 10th formula. The maximum thickness of 1.533 mm. was found from the 11th
ฉ
formula. The highest mean of a bend of the weft thread of 5.50 cm. was found from the 4th
formula. The highest average percentage of moisture resistance of 8.22 was found from the 4th
formula.
Finally, it was found from the design experiment focusing on the apparel products that
woven fabric from sugarcane fiber could be used in the production of bags, hats, and shoes, with
the guarantee of forms, colors, beauty, and functional strength. When used in lamp design, the
woven fabric from sugarcane could be shaped nicely with the lamp structure for actual usage,
good amount of light, and constant light distribution.
