Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to 1) to synthesize the Thai-style three-dimensional
(3D) animation of Ramayana and 2) to develop Thai-style 3D animation on Ramayana by using
Thai identity. The research methodology has three steps. The first step was Pre-production
process which was the process of gathering relevant information from research, textbook, and
documents by grouping the data according the conceptual framework. The conceptual framework
in this research is called Thai multi arts which can be classified into five groups including Thai
literature, Thai dramatic, Thai visual arts, Thai Music, and 3D animation.
The composition of the 3D animation consists of four parts including story, character and scene,
movement, and sound. When Thai identity was found from each component, the design of
character, scenes, and chapters were started to see the concrete in the process of synthesizing
integrative of Thai traditional arts to 3D animation about Ramayana by three Thai cultural experts
and three animation specialists, in total 6 persons. 2) The second step was Production process
which was the process of creating a Thai-style 3D animation of Ramayana in Narai
Praap Nonthok episode using the synthesized format in the first step as a guidance to create the
animation. 3) The third step was Post-Production process which was the editing process in order
to make the animation complete. Moreover, the quality of the work and the appropriateness of
Thai style in the work was evaluated by three experts in Thai culture and three experts in
animation, in total 6 persons. Then, the finished animation was presented to the sample group to
find level of satisfaction.
The research results can be concluded as follows: 1) Synthesis of Thai-style 3D
animation on Ramayana is the integration of multi arts and 3D animationsuch as the use of Thai
literature to create a story, the use of Thai appearance to create characters and scenes, the use of
Thai dramatic to create the movement of characters, and the use of Thai musical form to create
music. The result of the integration was in high level of satisfaction (xത = 4.30, SD =ช 0.48 2) Considering the creation of Thai-style 3D animation on Ramayana in Narai Praap Nonthok
episode, the experts in animation were satisfied with the quality of the animation (xത = 4.23,
SD = 0.42) and 3) For appropriateness, the experts in Thai culture were very satisfied (xത = 4.80,
SD = 0.26). Overall, with the sample group of 54 undergraduate students who were studying in
animation filed, the results of the 3D animation were at the most satisfactory (xത = 4.66,
SD = 0.59).
