Abstract:
This thesis is fabricated and compiled with the objectives that aim to give relevant design guidelines for the development of transport interchange at Bangkapi Intersection and its vicinities. In order to achieve these objectives, numbers of methodologies have been reinforced. Namely, the scrutiny of the area existing, economic & social ambiance and the characteristics of transportation in this area. Apart from the literatural studies, detailed field studies have also been conducted which covers the current conditions of the areas transportation networking, the actual utilization of surrounding buildings and open space all of which lead to the analysis of area roles, ongoing problems and change tendencies of the area as well as the synthesis of ideas, strategies, supportive evidence and areas physical components required for the development plans. From above, it has been found that Bangkapi Intersection is recognized as one of the most important transportation interchanges. As the network is consisting of 5 major roads and 1 waterway for transportation line, the junction accommodates great number of commuters almost to its maximum capacity each day. Other than transportation, Bangkapi is also a home to commercial bodies, governmental offices and one of the densest residential areas. Due to the density of the commuters, multiple purposes and ill management of the area, Bangkapi has reportedly lacked the consistency in serving its non transportation and increasingly deteriorated its role as a transport interchange. Furthermore, the current being of Bangkapi has also shrinked the green area necessary for the public and community activities. All in all, the development of Bangkapi is tremendously mandatory in order to elevate the capacity of the areas as a transport interchange and retrieve the better urbanism as a commercial and residential quarter. Finally, this thesis has analyzed and compiled current problems of Bangkapi area as the transport interchange which has brought about guidelines and initial development plans. These plans lead to maximizing the open space and building capacity in order to prepare for the future transportation activities such as the MRTA. (Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand) expansion project. Also, it has lead to improving connectivity and accessibility of non-transportation area to transportation area and vice versa. In the end, these guidelines and development plans are aimed to be adopted and practiced for the further development of Bangkapi intersection in the future.
