Abstract: Based on the data of listed manufacturing companies from 2011 to 2016, this paper builds two models: the theoretical model of the influence of technical expert directors on the growth of manufacturing companies and the mediating role model of technical expert directors affecting the short-term growth of enterprises through R & D investment. This paper uses panel regression to conduct an empirical analysis to test the impact of technical expert directors and R & D investment on the short-term growth of enterprises. The research results illustrates that: technical expert directors can significantly promote the short-term growth of enterprises by improving innovation efficiency, and can also enhance the quality of R & D investment; at the same time, R & D investment also plays an intermediary role in the short-term growth of technical expert directors; Finally, based on the conclusions obtained in this paper, suggestions and measures are provided to optimize the role of technical expert directors on the board of directors of listed companies in China's manufacturing industry, and use their role in R & D investment to promote the growth of listed companies in China's manufacturing companies.
