The Generation of G1 Cubic Bezier Curve Fitting for Thai Character Contour
Abstract:
Conventionally,Thai characters are composed of closed loop, twists, curves and straight
lines, from start to end. Several well-known Thai fonts follow these traditional writing
rules. However, these features of the characters make it difficult to obtain a set of G1-
continuity cubic Bezier curves that fit to the contour of Thai characters. In this study,
JasmineUPC font has been chosen for the investigation because it provides some
simplified features of Thai characters such as head, closed loop and twist specification.
Thus, an algorithm for the generation of curve fitting for the contour of the font has been
introduced and can be divided into three main parts: Preprocessing, Segmentation and
Verification. In the process of preprocessing, each Thai character will be digitized into a
bitmap file. Its contour will then be extracted from this image and be processed ready for
curve fitting. Second, feature detections can be conducted in order to obtain the curve
segmentation and curve matching. Using a proposed method, a set of four Bezier control
points will be generated according to each curve segment. Finally, the verification
process will be taken in account in order to guarantee the G1-continuity of the joining
curves, formed into a Thai font.
