Abstract:
The aims of this thesis is to study the influence of alloying elements such as 5Zr, 4Sn and 5Zr-4Sn
including heat treatment on the mechanical properties of Ti-15Mo. The ingots of Ti-15Mo,
Ti-15Mo-5Zr, Ti-15Mo-4Sn and Ti-15Mo-5Zr-4Sn were prepared. The microstructures,
microhardness, crystal structures, chemical compositions and biocompatibility were characterized.
The experimental results showed that the addition of 5Zr, 4Sn and 5Zr-4Sn in the Ti-15Mo alloy
effected to reducing in the hardness of Ti-15Mo ingot. However, all compositions exhibited f3-BCC
phase. The biocompatibility test revealed that all Ti compositions were not cytotoxic. After heat
treatment by solution treat subsequently aging in the temperature ranges of 300-600 C,
microstructures and mechanical properties were modified. It could be concluded that the Ti-15Mo5Zr-
4Sn alloy had the maximum tensile strength and low modulus after aging at 600 C for 2 hours.
It could be good for a biomedical applications.
