Abstract:
The objectives of the researchentitled significance and roles of KlongPuJa, PuJa
drum, at the context area of Che Di Saaw Lang Temple, Lampang Province were aimed to 1)
study the culture of KlongPuJa, sociocultural and geographical backgrounds of Che Di Saaw
Lang Temple, Lampang Province, and relevant contexts, 2) study roles and significance of
KlongPuJa, and 3) study the body of knowledge about KlongPuJa and other continuative
activitiesof Hongkong Khelang Nakhorn Museum. The conceptual framework and research
methodology were the standard management of cultural heritage conducted by Fine Arts
Department, Collection in cultural wisdom and heritage of the Department of Cultural Promotion,
Nara Document Investigation and Collection in Rare-Authentic Musical Information and
communication through the museum of International Council of Museums.
The research revealed that KlongPuJa had importantly linked with local peoples
socio-cultural background and the areaof temples as well as the context area of Che Di Saaw
Lang Temple, Lampang Province. The context area consisted of history of Buddhism, 24
pagodas, and museum of Che Di Saaw Lang Temple where had told about history and legend of
PhraSae Tong Kum (the golden Buddha image), name list of abbots, especially
Phrarajchindanayok, the abbot who appreciated the preservation of KlongPuJa through
HongkongPuJa Khelang Nakhorn Museum. The research collected the history and development
of Che Di Saaw Lang Temple and compiled the body of knowledge on KlongPuJa like the treecutting ceremony, taking logs out of the forest, making process of KlongPuJa, containing of the
heart of KlongPuJa, and other ceremonies. Moreover, the temple had revived the drum beating
of KlongPuJa for occasions in Buddhist holy days and traditional rituals of the temple and the
village. Also, the research compiled the continuative activities for the youths learning and

organized as annual workshop. The development of beating pattern, shape, beating styles, sizes
and materials of KlongPuCabrought peoples participative development in the form of the special
program calledthe Youth Camp for Preservation of KlongPuJa Beating Tradition. This
program had resulted in the preservation and passing on the cultural heritage to the next
generation. Importantly, it had been developed to the internationally special event, known as the
1st International Drum Festival 2016 in Lampang Province. It was a model of Thailands
sustainable preservation and development.
