Abstract:
The aerosol therapy is a common procedure in preschool children, reducing fear is
important. The quasi-experimental research, two-group posttest-only design aimed to examine
effect of funny finger puppets with storytelling on fear of aerosol therapy in preschool children.
The sample included 30 preschool children with3 to 6 years of age with treated for the first time
in a hospital with respiratory tract infection admitted in Pediatric Unit,Prapokklao Hospital,
Chanthaburi province. Samples were convenience samplingassigned to either the experimental
and control groups which were 15 equally. Data were collected between June to August 2018.
The experimental group received of funny finger puppets with storytelling, whereas the control
group received usual nursing care. Researchinstruments consisted of the funny finger puppets,
storytelling, questionnaire and the observational question of fear behavior of aerosol therapy in
preschool children. Their Cronbach,
s alpha was .87. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics
Independence t-test.
The results reveals that mean score of perceived funny finger puppets with storytelling in
experiment group (M = 14.33, SD = 1.84) was significantly lesser than those in the control group
(M = 23.67, SD = 5.42) (t = 6.32, p< .001)
Findings identify that the funny finger puppets with storytelling in preschool children
who received aerosol therapy is effective. Nurses can apply to reduce the child,
s fear in order to
use aerosol therapy effectively.
