Abstract:
This research presented 2D finite element modeling (FEM) of short pile subjected to lateral load and
plate anchor in sand by PLAXIS with Mohr-Coulomb Soil Model. A set of Young's Modulus (E)
was trialed to match the past experimental results obtained from the centrifuge pile and plate anchor
models. The FEM showed that, for the short pile subjected to lateral load, the appropriate E values
should be 13,000 and 34,500 kN/m2 for loose and dense sands, respectively. For the FEM plate
anchor with E value of 6,500 kN/m2 , the FEM results yielded the behaviors corresponding to
experimental results obtained from past prototype and models. Furthermore, the FEM results
showed that, the E value directly affects as expected to the slope (Stiffness) and Friction angle (?)
influences to the maximum load of load-displacement curves for both pile and anchor models.
The dilatancy angle (?) is less effect on the FEM pile model than the FEM anchor model.
