Abstract:
This research study aimed to explore the competency of youth tennis coach with the application of Delphi Technique by collecting opinions of 20 expert tennis coaches or coaches in Sport Science with the open-ended questions in the 1st phase and arranged in the sub-titled and eliminated the redundancy to create questionnaires in the 2nd phase with the use of 5 level rating scales. Data were analyzed with Median (MD) and Interquartile Range (IR) and Md-Mo. The research findings suggested that the competency of a youth tennis coach should be classified into different levels relevant to anatomy, physiology, movement, exercise, psychology, nutrition, sport science, sport injuries, first aid, tennis skills, simple coaching technique easy to understand in both theory and practice, communication, ability to try out new training techniques, development and system integration as well as being the advisor and problems-solver for the athletes so that the acquired data and technology could be applied appropriately with proper training explanation and improving the athletes skills. These also included the training steps, identifying the challenged training target and immediately rectifying his training situation, keeping the promise, performing duty with honesty, indiscrimination, nice personality, being polite and gentle, dressing properly, using right words and fair criticism. This research recommends that Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand Under his Majestys Patronage should prepare a manual for the sports coach, especially the youth tennis coaches for self-improvement in knowledge, skills, capabilities, and characteristics as well as assessing their competency on a regular basis.
