A common single-die exchange technology (C-SDET) for eliminating die changeover of various common pulleys
Abstract:
The main objective of this research is to propose the common single-die exchange technology of C-SDET that was applied to the pulley cold forging part to reduce the number of die changeovers. The used methodologies were composed of a) the classification of the product group and b) the determination of the common tooling. All the pulleys were classified by the two filters which were the assembled referenced dimensions and the customized common dimensions. Then, the sensitivity analysis based on the product geometry was employed to determine the preform part of the representative product that could cover all the selected models. So, the material waste and the underfilled defect were optimized. The representative product was selected by using the criteria of the maximum Height volume. The FEM simulation was used as the tool of this study, so the existing model was chosen to verify the concept. This technique was applied into the six pulley models which used the different initial blank sizes. The possibility to apply the preform was evaluated by superimposing the contour with the finished product. As a result, the number of tooling was reduced by 75 percent and 67 percent at the first and second forming step, respectively. The increasing capacity of the pulley forming was evaluated. About 1,800 pieces per shift of pulley would be achieved
