Abstract: The complexity of business applications causes problems for both the user and application designer. Designers and developers need a set of principles to guide them in creating highly usable business software. This thesis presents a novel approach to business application user interface design. We have defined a small set of task patterns with corresponding user interface elements which capture the fundamental characteristics of business applications. We tested these business application user interface patterns (BUIPs) by evaluating real-world business software to see how well it follows these patterns. Our results show significant consistency between our pattern set and the actual interfaces of commercial and open source business applications. Also, the results have showed some evidence that user interface screens which closely match our patterns are easier to understand than screens which do not.

Abstract: ความยุ่งยากของโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์เพื่อการนำไปใช้งานเชิงธุรกิจก่อให้เกิดปัญหาทั้งผู้ใช้งานและ ผู้ออกแบบโปรแกรม ผู้ออกแบบและนักพัฒนาจำเป็นที่จะต้องมีหลักแนวทางเพื่อใช้นำในการสร้าง โปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ใช้งานได้อย่างดีและง่ายต่อการใช้งาน วิทยานิพนธ์นี้นำเสนอแนวทางใหม่ สำหรับการออกแบบส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้งานของโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์เพื่อการนำไปใช้งานเชิงธุรกิจ ซึ่ง ได้ทำการนิยามชุดของแบบแผนการทำงานที่สอดคล้องกับส่วนประกอบของส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้งาน ที่ แสดงลักษณะพื้นฐานของโปรมแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์เพื่อการนำไปใช้เชิงธุรกิจ โดยการทดสอบชุด แบบแผนที่ได้นิยามขึ้นผ่านการประเมินกับโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์เพื่อการนำไปใช้งานเชิงธุรกิจที่มีใช้ งานอยู่ในตลาด เพื่อตรวจสอบความสอดคล้องกันกับแบบแผนที่ได้นิยามขึ้น พบว่าผลการทดสอบ แสดงนัยยะความสอดคล้องระหว่างชุดแบบแผนกับส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้งานของโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ เพื่อการนำไปใช้งานเชิงธุรกิจทั้งโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ดำเนินงานในเชิงการค้าและในลักษณะ โอเพ่นซอร์ส อีกทั้งผลการทดสองยังแสดงข้อมูลที่บ่งบอกว่าส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้งานซึ่งสอดคล้องกับ แบบแผนมากจะง่ายต่อการใช้งานมากกว่าส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้งานที่มีความสอดคล้องกับแบบแผนน้อย
