Rack dolly manufacturing process improvement for automobiles industries
Abstract:
This research aims to propose a new improvement plan for Rack-dolly process at TNCs rack-dolly production plant. The objective of research is increasing the productivity and efficiency through the optimal simulation model that can represent the real system and predict the effects of things in the production line before implementation (real system). The current model that imitating real system was run according to TNCs working procedure. The process information was collected during the firm produce J03M model, having 25 types of product or 496 units, time consuming nearly 2 months (25 days per month, 8 hours per day and 1 hours break) Employing the Systematic layout planning (SLP), this method was selected for the long-term improvement planning along with rearranged the sequence of producing the rack-dolly products (short-term plan). The one of the scenarios which provide the highest percentage of improvement that consisting high efficiency, reduce input, (shortest traveled distance) and high productivity, increasing output, (throughput per day) is recommended. The proposed scenarios are simulated with computer simulation. The total traveled distance of rack-dolly process through improvement (Plan II) reduce from 189,300 meters to 153,400 meters (efficiency increase 19%) Consequently, Plan II+STPT (Shortest total processing time) is the best scenarios that highest throughput increasing from 9.91 units per day to 11.27 unit per day (productivity increase 12.1%) with total percentage improvement 31.1%.
