Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the relations of social support from family, friends, workplace, nanny/childcare and social media on maternal self-efficacy and occupational self-efficacy of first-time mothers after maternity leave. Participants were 91 first-time mothers (20-42 years of age). Participants completed a questionnaire that consisted of demographic data, social support scale, maternal self-efficacy scale and occupational self-efficacy scale. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that social support from family, friends, workplace, nanny/childcare and social media can explain 14.3% of variance in maternal self-efficacy ( r2 = .143, Adjustedr2 = .030); in addition, the five sources of social support could explain 44.5% of variance in occupational self-efficacy of first-time mothers ( r2 = .445, Adjusted r2 = .373).Social support from family was positively and significantly correlated with maternal self-efficacy and occupational self-efficacy but social support from friends was negatively and significantly correlated with occupational self-efficacy at 0.05 level. Furthermore, this research examined other sources of social support, such as nanny, childcare, social media, which has been helpful for mothers in the modern days.
