Abstract:
ABSTRACT
The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop the competency model of effective school administrators; and 2) examine the competency model of effective school administrators under local administrative organizations. Mixed methods research was used in this study. The research sample were derived by stratified random sampling according to region. The key informants were school directors, deputy directors or persons in charge, and basic education committee, totaling 948 persons. The research instruments were a semi-structured interview and two questionnaires. The content validity of the questionnaire was equal to 0.50 1.00 and the reliability was equal to 0.96 0.99. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, confirmatory factor analysis, path analysis, and content analysis.
The research findings revealed that:
1. The competency model of effective school administrators consisted of 7 causal variables. They were: 1) moral courage and code of conduct, 2) transformational leadership, 3) personnel potential development, 4) communication and motivation, 5) team working, 6) results-based management, and 7) administrators analysis and synthesis. The effect variable was the effectiveness of school administrators. When examining the competency model for effective school administrators, it was found that the model had the causal relationship with the empirical data. The aspects of transformational leadership, personnel potential development, results-based management, administrators analysis and synthesis, moral courage and code of conduct, and team working directly affected the effectiveness of school administrators. The aspects of communication and motivation indirectly affected the effectiveness of school administrators.
2. The examination results of the competency model of effective school administrators by the experts showed that the model was appropriate, feasible, accurate, and applicable.
