Abstract:
This research studied the architecture of rice mill Phichit Province including rice trading, belief and culture. It aimed to be a database of vernacular architecture in industrial factory type, relating to rice culture which was transformed into an economic crop. After Bowring treaty in 1855, "rice" was transformed into industrial crop for trading and export. This bring about the growth of rice planting areas for market expansion together with the development of rice processing technology as well ass architecture, called rice-mill. Lots of capitalists and merchants invested in the Nan River basin, Phichit Province since it had been the important rice planting area which caused to build the large numbers of rice-mill. Factors in choosing the rice-mill location were related to the river, the expansion of the northern railway Line, and so forth The architecture of these rice-mill were distinctive Space was related to the rice processing industries. The structure architecture of wide span enclosures were based on Chinese engineering. New materials came with train and Chinese belief and culture of the owners. All of these were, however, relied on basic idea of Local people.
