Abstract:
This study aimed to 1) develop the learning an outcomes-based curriculum using sociolinguistic approach to enhance Thai conversation competencies for foreign learners and 2) evaluate the quality of the developed curriculum, comprised of curriculum quality evaluation by the experts and curriculum quality evaluation by implementing with 30 foreign learners of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University. The study was carried out for 1 semester. The instrument used was unit learning management plan. The data collection was carried out using the Thai conversation competency assessment, learning log, and interview learning log. The data were analyzed by the single group, pretest-posttest time series design and the equivalent times series, designed to study the learner development using the inferential statistics to analyze repeated measure ANOVA and Bonferronis method. The research results revealed as follows: 1.The learning result based curriculum according to the sociolinguistics concepts to enhance Thai conversation for the foreign learners was developed according to 5 major stages as follows: 1) to plan outcome and sequence topics, 2) to study the learners, 3) to design the learning units, 4) to implement the curriculum, and 5) to asses outcomes. The developed curriculum consisted of 6 learning units with 90 hours in total, namely Learning Unit 1: Sawasdee (10 hours), Learning Unit 2: souvenir from Thailand (20 hours.), Learning Unit 3: I have a date today (20 hours), Learning Unit 4: Birthday party (20 hours), Learning Unit 5: Belongings Returned (10 hours), Learning Unit 6: Delight Songkran (10 hours). 2. The curriculum implementation evaluation was found that the Thai conversation competency scores of individual foreign learner were higher than the previous evaluation for every sub evaluation by the statistic significance at .05 level. When compared the scores between the pre-test post-test evaluation, the mean of foreign learners was increased by statistic significance at the .05 level.
