Trusted-Persuasive Web-based Learning for Rote Learning Students
Abstract:
Web-based learning (WBL) is being used in many higher educations. However, rote
learning students often cannot get full benefit from traditional WBL because they
habitually learn with repetition and memorization of course content. They regularly
cannot learn alone or learn continuously by themselves. Rote learning students usually
follow their teachers to get new knowledge.
This dissertation proposed framework for designing Trusted-Persuasive Web-based
Learning for Rote Learning Students. The proposed research framework consists of two
models, the Persuasive Model and the Trust Model. The Persuasive Model will
persuade rote learning students to adopt WBL. To persuade rote learning student, this
dissertation found that the following factors must be considered: Perceive Hedonic
(PH), Perceive User Friendly Interface (PUFI), Perceive Visual Attractiveness (PVA),
and Perceived Usefulness of Homepage Content (PUHC). To remain learning, Trust
Model is required. Trust Model helps establish students trust in WBL. To establish trust,
WBL must be able to create students feeling of: Realization (R), Solidarity (S),
Familiarity (F), and Effect (E). Example of the Trusted-Persuasive Web-based Learning
for Rote Learning Students is implemented following to the both proposed models. The
implemented WBL is tested with sample size of 83 from urban universities students in
Thai education environment. The result confirms that WBL which follows the proposed
framework can persuade rote learning students to adopt and remain learning continuity.
