The effects of self-efficacy promoting program on perceived self-efficacy and outcome expectation of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability among village health volunteers
Abstract:
Enhancing self-efficacy of village health volunteer is important for taking a
rehabilitation assistant role for persons with mobility disability. This quasi-experimental research
aimed to study the effects of the self-efficacy promoting program on perceived self-efficacy and
the outcome expectation in rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability among village
health volunteers. A multi-stage cluster random sampling was used to recruit 60 village health
volunteers in Bo-Thong, Chon Buri province. They were divided into experimental group
(n= 30) and control group (n= 30). The experimental group participated in the self-efficacy
promoting program. Data were collected by questionnaires on self-efficacy and the outcome
expectation of rehabilitation which had reliabilities of .99 and .99 respectively. Descriptive
statistics and independent t-test were used to analyze the data.
The results revealed that after the experiment, the experimental group had gained
significant higher scores on the self-efficacy and the outcome expectation of rehabilitation for
persons with mobility disability than the control group (t= 14.8, p< .001 and t= 12.38, p< .001,
respectively).
The results confirm that the self-efficacy promoting program is an effective program to
enhance the perceived self-efficacy and the outcome expectation. Therefore, nurse and other
personnel can apply this program as a guideline to improve a rehabilitation assistant role of
village health volunteers, in order to improve quality of life among persons with mobility
disability.
