Abstract:
ABSTRACT
This purposes of this research were to: 1) study the personnels quality of life and work efficiency; 2) compare the work efficiency as classified by personal factors; 3) study the personnels quality of life affecting work efficiency; and 4) find the guidelines to build quality of life affecting work efficiency of personnel in marigold seed business in Chiang Mai Province. Mixed method research design was used in this study. Regarding quantitative research, the sample of 415 personnel working in marigold seed business in Chiang Mai Province was selected, based on Yamane formula, by proportional stratified random sampling distributed by company size. The research instrument was a questionnaire constructed by the researcher with the content validity between 0.67 1.00. The reliability coefficients were between 0.70 0.82 for quality of life and 0.73 0.74 for work efficiency. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, least significant difference, correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. As for qualitative research, 5 key informants were chief executives derived by purposive sampling. The instrument was an interview form constructed by the researcher. Data were analyzed by content analysis.
The research results were as follows:
1. Overall, the personnels quality of life was at a high level. The top three aspects out of ten were communication between personnel and organization, participation of personnel, and good health. The personnels work efficiency, overall, were at the highest level. The aspects were work process, product, and personnel.
2. Regarding the level of work efficiency as classified by personal factors, there were significant differences among personnel classified by age, education, income, and work experience. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference among those classified by gender, position, and status.
3. Regarding the quality of life affecting work efficiency, the aspects of 1) work security (x1), 2) safety work environment (x2), 3) fair compensation (x3), 4) pride (x4), 5) participation of personnel (x5), 6) career development (x6), 7) conflict resolution (x7), 8) good health (x9), and 9) balance of work and family (x10) together predicted work efficiency at the percentage of 56 with statistical significance level of .05. The regression equation was Y ̂ tot = 1.05+0.04x1+0.13x2+0.14x3+0.10x4+0.17x5+0.18x6+0.09x7+0.04x9+0.04x10.
4. The guideline to build quality of life affecting work efficiency of personnel in marigold seed business depended on personnels collaboration in jobsite. The personnel should be encouraged to think and plan the job together and to love their jobs. In addition they should develop their career by learning from inside and outside the organization. The company should pay compensation based on personnels potential, monetary and non-monetary compensation, to motivate good performance.
