Abstract:
The objective of this research was to increase the assembly line productivity of fan-motor in order
to reduce the employees' overtime cost. This study focused on the line balancing process and work
study method to identify the factors which affect low productivity. The first step started with Cause
and Effect Diagram to figure out the factors causing the problems. Then, the factors were selected
by Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to make priority. The results of the analysis showed
that there were two mains factors which caused the problems. The first one was the waiting time
and the other was non-standard working. The assembly line productivity of fan-motor was study in
order to find out the sub-processes. The next steps were to reckon time and to figure out the
standard time. Then, the sub-process that caused the work piece had to wait before entering the
process would be shown out. Finally, the sub-process was improved for productivity increasing not
less than 20 percent. From the results, it could be concluded that the improvement increased the
productivity 23.19 percent and the assembly line efficiency increased by 19.28 percent.
