An Exponential Profile Model for Tropical Cyclone Wind Speed Estimation
Abstract:
In this research a tropical cyclone wind models based on single-exponential profile is
developed. Another model using dual-exponential profile is also developed. In the
models, the wind speed increases as a power of radius inside the eye of the storm and
decays exponentially outside the eye of the storm. The models can be used to estimate
surface wind speed from minimum pressure at the storm center, environment pressure,
radius of maximum wind speed, and the wind-shape parameter. Several experiments are
? performed to investigate appropriate parameters from the 14 tropical cyclones that
entered Thailand. A risk map of tropical cyclone wind for Thailand is also constructed
based on the single exponential profile model.
