Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to investigate the level of people participation in community development; to compare people participation i n community development in Khokpho Municipality, Pattani between gender, age, religion, educational level, occupation, income per month and length of stay in the community; and to study the participation problems and participation suggestions. There
were 306 households participating in this study. The research instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The questionnaire comprises of three parts, namely, personal information, people participation in community development, and participation problems a nd suggestions. The statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t -test and F-test. If there were any differences, Scheffes test was introduced.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The people participation in Khokpho Municipality, Pattani was overall at a high level. When considered in each dimension, the highest mean of people participation was the decision of participation. The project action participation and the evaluation of participation were at a lowest level respectively.
2. The comparison results of people participation in Khokpho Municipality, Pattani between gender, age, religion, educational level, occupation, income per month and length of stay in the community found that differences of people in the aspects of gender, age, religion, length of stay in the community background commonly participated in the community development. However, in the different aspects of educational level, occupation, and income per month, there was a st atistically significant difference, with an effect size of 0.5 of people participation in community development in Khokpho Municipality, Pattani.
3. Problems and suggestions of people participation in Khokpho Municipality, Pattani was to develop community infrastructure management for the maximum benefits. In addition, there should also communicate to people in the community concerning their roles and duties among municipality members and administrators. Moreover, the people awareness of roles, duties and responsibilities should be promoted. These promotions should be announced through meeting, announcement, or other appropriate kinds of promoting.
