An analysis of writing errors in corrective action reports (CARs) of Thai staff in an automotive industry company
Abstract:
The study aimed to analyze the writing errors in corrective action reports
(CARs) of Thai staff in an automotive industry company. The purposes of this study
were to determine the types of English writing errors and to examine the frequency of
English writing errors occurred in the CARs. James (1998) conceptual framework
was used in order to analyze the data. The data were selected based on the purposive
sampling method of 34 CARs from 2015 to 2016. The results disclosed to 3 types of
writing errors: grammatical errors (57.14%), lexical errors (39.79%), and semantic
errors (1.66%), and others (1.40%), respectively. The results also revealed that the
English writing skills of Thai staff in the automotive industry who used English as a
foreign language for communication required increased reinforcement and
development. The Thai staff lacked English writing skills because they graduated
from various faculties and their first language may interfere. The findings should be
offered to Human and Resources department to evaluate the employees English
writing skills and to set a training plan based on the Thai staffs problem,
recommendations and some implications those are significant to an important
instrument for the company.
