Abstract:
This paper presents a numerical investigation of the air side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of a plate fin and flattened tube heat exchanger (PFFTHE) and a plate fin and circular tube heat exchanger (PFCTHE). The influence of Reynold numbers on overall Nusselt number, average outlet air temperature and pressure drop of the PFFTHE with different flattened thicknesses and the PFCTHE was presented. The results indicate that the overall Nusselt number and pressure drop of both heat exchangers increase with Reynold number and the flattened thickness. The overall Nusselt number and pressure drop of PFFTHE is higher than that of PFCTHE. The average outlet air temperature of both heat exchangers decreases with an increase in Reynold number. The average outlet air temperature of PFCTHE is higher than that of PFFTHE, and it decrease with an increase in flattened thickness.
