Abstract:
This study had the objective to 1) Study a performance on a small single-cylinder diesel engine using biodiesel from perilla seed oil as fuel compared with Deisel. 2) Emissions on a small single-cylinder diesel engine using biodiesel from perilla seed oil as fuel compared with Diesel. The engine used in this test was brand YANMAR, model TF 90 DI-L with the speed 2,450 rpm to 1,200 rpm in the Full Load condition to study the performance on torque of the engine , engine power, the brake specific fuel consumption and heat efficiency of the engine and regarding the pollution on the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx), hydrocarbon(HC) and carbon monoxide(CO). From the study, it was found that regarding the performance, torque power and Break Thermal Efficiency of the engine that used biodiesel from perilla seed oil was very similar to diesel. Whereas the brake specific fuel consumption of the engine that used biodiesel from perilla seed oil was higher than using biodiesel as fuel. Regrading the emissions, it was found that exhaust gas of the engine used biodiesel from perilla seed oil had higher amount of NOx than diesel but the amount of CO and HC was lower than diesel.
