A Study of the Relationship between Internet Utilization and the Achievement of Higher Vocational Certificate of the Students at Tangtrongchit Commercial School
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to find out the internet utilization and the relationship between
internet utilization and the achievement of first year students at higher vocational certificate level,
with a major in Business Computer at Tangtrongchit Commercial School. A population was 230
students from 1'1 year of higher vocational certificate level, with a major in Business Computer at
Tangtrongchit Commercial School, in the academic year of RE. 2550. The instrument used for data
collection was a questionnaire with 7 rating scales. The reliability of the instrument was at 0.848.
Statistics utilized for data analysis were mean (J.l), standard deviation (a), correlation coefficient,
and multiple regression analysis.
The research results showed that:
1) According to the general status for internet utilization of the students, it was found that most of
students were female with more than five-year of internet experience and their GPA was
2.51 - 3.00, the purposes of internet utilization were as follows: data searching, chatting, and
learning the new technology, the students were dealing with friends using the internet, the time
period of internet utilization was 05.00 - 08.00 a.m. with an average of 1 - 2 hours, their
satisfaction of internet utilization was to receive the information concerning the current events of
social issues, politics, education, economics, sports and tourism. The students when found
interesting information, would save the information into the secondary storage, and after internet
utilization, the students would be able to apply the knowledge to enhance their skills.
2) According to multiple regression analysis, there was a significant relationship between internet
utilization and the achievement at 0.01 level with 0.433 of multiple correlation coefficient and the
internet utilization could predict the students' achievement 18.70% on the condition that the
purposes of internet utilization were to search data (XI), to study e-learning and long distance
learning with internet (X5). The persons whom the students were dealing with internet utilization
were friends (X16). The time' period of internet utilization was 05.00 - 08.00 a.m. (X17) and
20.00 - 22.00 p.m. (X2I) with an average of 2 - 4 hours (X26) and 6 - 8 hours (X28). The students
started to record the information into the secondary storage after the internet utilization (X42) that
was indicated by regression equation as follows:
