Abstract:
The project studies the influence of Feng Shui on project management. Nine housing construction
projects are used as case studies. The study is conducted at each of the seven phases ranging from
need identification to project disposal. Changes occurred as a result of introducing Feng Shui to
each project are gathered through documentation review, project observation and stakeholder
interviews. Attempts have been made in quantifying the negative impacts on project schedules and
costs caused by Feng Shui. The result obtained from the case studies indicate that, in real-life, Feng
Shui has been introduced into each project at different phases from the beginning to the end. It can
be observed that the negative impact on those projects where Feng Shui was introduced at the early
stage is relatively smaller. In one case study, Feng Shui was introduced very late, the project cost
was increased by almost fifty percent. For this particular case, the conflicts occurred among the
architects, engineers, owner and Feng Shui experts are also increased. The general finding of this
study has led to a new framework that incorporates Feng Shui into the construction project
management scheme. This proposed framework con be used to minimize the negative impacts on
project cost and schedule as well as the relationship among the stakeholders involved.
