Abstract:
The objectives of this research were 1) to synthesize the learning model of problem solving with simulation or LMPSS model, 2) to develop a simulation tool according to LMPSS model, 3) to develop the computer-based instruction using LMPSS model, 4) to evaluate the effectiveness of the computer-based instruction for LMPSS model, 5) to compare the learning achievement of students before and after learning from the computer-based instruction for LMPSS, and 6) to evaluate the satisfaction of students on computer-based instruction for LMPSS model. The research methodology was divided into 4 phases: phase I: synthesize the LMPSS model, phase II: develop the simulation tool, phase III, develop the computer-based instruction using LMPSS model, and phase IV: study the results after using the computer-based instruction developed by using LMPSS model.
The research results found that 1) LMPSS model was consisted of 8 components including interface module, learning module, simulation activity module, problem solving module, assessment module, collaboration module, scaffolding module, and content module, and from the experts opinions, LMPSS model was appropriate at 100%, 2) from the evaluation of the simulation tool, it showed that the effectiveness was at highest level (x̅= 4.60, S.D. = 0.61), 3) from the experts opinions on the computer-based instruction developed by using LMPSS model was at 100% in terms of content, and appropriate at a highest level (x̅= 4.77, S.D. = 0.42), 4) the effectiveness of the computer-based instruction was 82.97/80.13 which was higher than the predefined criteria, 5) the comparison of the learning achievement found that the students who studied with the computer-based instruction developed by using LMPSS model had post-test scores higher than pre-test scores at .01 statistically significance level, and finally, 6) student satisfaction on the computer-based instruction developed by using LMPSS model at the highest level (x̅= 4.55, S.D. = 0.55).
