Abstract:
This research focuses on the factors affecting the perception and adoption of longan
production technology among farmers in Lamphun Province. The objective is to study on
the issues of the farmers perception and acceptance of using the technology in order to
understand the level of knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply the technology
with their longan farms. Besides, it aims at acknowledging problems and obstacles in
longan production of the farmers within Lamphun area. For the data analysis, the
sampling method was used for collecting 400 samples from longan farmers in Lamphun
Province. The Descriptive Statistics was used for analyzing the data about levels of
perception and adoption. While analyzing the factors affecting the perception and
adoption of technology in longan production of farmers in Lamphun Province, the OrderProbit Model was applied.
In studying on the level of perception and adoption of longan production technology
of the farmers in Lamphun Province, the researcher divided the technology that needed
to be studied into 3 aspects. In case of Longan tree preparation technology, the results of
the survey show that: (1) Longan tree preparation technology: most respondents have the
highest level of technology perception, but have the level of adoption appears very low,
(2) Fertilizer application technology and (3) Diseases and insects control technology:
most respondents obtain the highest level of technology perception as well as the level of
technology adoption. In case of Potassium Chlorate

application technology to induce flowering, the results of the survey show that: (1 )
Longan tree selection technology for flowering inducement: most of the respondents have
the highest level of technology perception and they also adopt the technology at the
highest level for their longan farms 2) Weed removal technology, (3) Potassium Chlorate
for longan production technology, (4) Potassium Chlorate application technology, ( 5 )
Watering technology: most respondents have the highest level of technology perception
and most of them also have the highest level of technology adaptation. (6) Potassium
Chlorate avoidance technology: most respondents have the highest level of technology
perception but the farmers not applying technology. In addition, in case of Longan tree
care technology, the results showed that: (1 ) Watering technology and (2) Fertilization
application technology: most respondents have the highest level of both technology
perception and technology adoption, (3) Longan quality improvement technology: the
technology are perceived at the highest level of the respondents, whereas the majority of
the whole do not adopt the technology to their longan farms, (4) Technology of Petroleum
Oil or White Oil spraying and (5) Panicles bagging technology: not only most
respondents do not acknowledge the technology but also most of them do not adopt the
technology in their farms.
About the factors affecting perception and adoption of Longan Production, the
results of factors affecting perception are 11 -12.5 rais of the farmers cultivated areas
(LAND 04), the 7.6 10 rais of the farmers cultivated areas (LAND 03), the level of
education of farmers with undergraduate or postgraduate education attainment (EDU 01),
the relationship between agricultural extension officers and farmers (AGENT), the 12.6
15 rais of the farmers cultivated areas (LAND 05), the farmers gender (SEX), and the
farmers' experiences in training (TRAINING) significantly affect the perception of
technology of longan farmers. Furthermore, the results of factors affecting adoption are
the farmers perception of technology in longan production (PERCEP), the relationship
between agricultural extension officers and farmers (AGENT), the memberships of
agricultural associations or groups (MEMBER), the level of education of farmers with
high school or vocational education attainment (EDU 03), and the level of education of
farmers with undergraduate or postgraduate education attainment (EDU 01). It is noted
that these both of the educational factors are negatively affect the adoption of Longan
production.
