Abstract:
This research is a quantiative research with cross-sectional survey. Research objectives are to analyze time spent in nursing actvities of professional nurses and nurses assistant at the Hemodialysis Unit, Sa-Nga Nilwarangkool, SIriraj Hospital. Sample group were 25 professional nurses and 12 nurses assistant. Data were collected by nursing activities record. 63 records were analyzed or 100.00%. Data were analyzed by explanatory and inferential statistics. Results found that professional nurses and nurses assistant spend an average of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 1 hour and 33 minutes respectively. Professional nurses and nurses assistant spend the most time in indirect care. The time that professional nurses spend in indirect care differed from the time that nurses assistant, who spend only 8 minutes in indirect care. The time that nurses assistant spend in indirect care is only 48 seconds more than the professional nurses. Professional nurses in the morning and evening shift spend the most time in direct care in wound dressing. The indirect care that they spend the most time in was the morning shift, evening shift and night shift was in transferring the shift. Nurses assistant spend time in nursing activities in indirect care such as sputum suction. The evening shift spends time to prepare documents about supplies and inventory the most. In comparing the time spent in nursing activities, it was found that the average time spent by professional nurses and nurses assistant in performing activities did not not differ in the morning, evening, and night shift. According to the research, nursing administrators should set policies to distribute human resources in the appropriate and safe number to perform their job. They should have a development plan that will tackle their problems. They should have nursing skills and management training and use existing human resources who have different abilities and skills to establish the right skill mix to take care of hemodialysis patients.
