Effects of inquiry-based learning (5E) emphasizing critical thinking in Organic Chemistry on learning achievement and critical thinking abilities of Eleventh Grade Students
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study effects of inquiry-based learning (5E) emphasizing critical thinking in organic chemistry on learning achievement and critical thinking abilities of eleventh grade students. This research was a classroom action research which composed of 4 steps; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants consisted of 24 eleventh grade students in the second semester of the 2016 academic year at Princess Chulabhorns College, Chonburi. The research instruments were lesson plans based on
inquiry-based learning (5E) emphasizing critical thinking in organic chemistry, learning achievement test, and critical thinking abilities test. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, measuring development score, and descriptive analysis. The research results revealed that:
1. The learning achievement development scores after using inquiry-based learning (5E) emphasizing critical thinking in organic chemistry were at intermediate level with 34.50%.
2. The critical thinking abilities development scores after using inquiry-based learning (5E) emphasizing critical thinking in organic chemistry were at intermediate level with 47.33%.
