Abstract:
The objecives of this research were to : 1) compare the learning achievement in equations
and solving equations before and after implementing the thinking-based learning management focusing
on heuristic thinking, 2) compare the learning achievement in equations and solving equations
before and after using the normal learning management, and 3) compare the learning achievement in
equations and solving equations after implementing the heuristic thinking approach with that of the
normal learning management.
The sample comprised 70 primary 6 students in the second semester of Academic Year
2017 of Bueng Ba school, Pathum Thani Province. The subjects were chosen by using the cluster
random sampling technique and classified into two groups equally, including an experimental group
and a control group. Research tools included a lesson plan that focused on heuristic thinking in
helping the students learn about equations and solving equations, as well as a pretest and posttest.
Descriptive statistics used in this study included mean and standard deviation, and t-test was used
for the data analysis.
The results of the research showed that 1) the students achievement in mathematics
with heuristic thinking indicated that the posttest scores were higher than the pretest scores was
significance at the .01 level, 2) The achievement in mathematics using the traditional learning
method indicated that the posttest scores were higher than the pretest scores at the .01 level of
significance, and 3) The achievement in mathematics with heuristic-based thinking was higher than that
of the traditional learning method of significance at the .01 level.
