Selective hydrogenation of acetylene over Au-Pd/TiO2 catalysts prepared by strong electrostatic adsorption of Pd and electroless deposition of Au
Abstract:
In this study, TiO2 supported Au-Pd/TiO2 bimetallic catalysts showed improved
catalyst performances in the selective hydrogenation of acetylene for the removal of
acetylene contaminate in ethylene feed stream for polyethylene production. Firstly,
monometallic catalyst Pd/TiO2 prepared by strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) method
with high Pd dispersion (45% Pd dispersion, 1.04 wt.% Pd). Then, the electroless deposition
was employed to synthesize the Au-Pd/TiO2 bimetallic catalysts having incremental surface
coverages of Au on the Pd surface. The catalyst properties were characterized using
inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, hydrogen titration of oxygen-precovered Pd, X-ray
photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The Au-Pd/TiO2 catalysts exhibited high
ethylene selectivity at high acetylene conversion especially at high Au coverage.
