Guidelines for Developing the Retro Market for Tourism to Achieve Sustainability: a Case Study of Banrachan Retro Market Khaibangrachan District Singburi Province
Abstract:
The study entitled "Guidelines for developing the retro market for tourism to achieve sustainability: A Case study of Bang Rachan Retro Market, Khai Bang Rachan District, Sing Buri Province" have two objectives including: to study and compare Thai tourists behaviors in the community by demographic data of tourism in the Bang Rachan Retro Market; and to seek ways to develop tourism in the Bang Rachan Retro Market of Khai Bang Rachan District, Sing Buri Province in order to achieve the sustainability. The population used in this study was 100 tourists aged more than 15 years and the data were collected using open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires. The data analysis process included using the descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) to analyze quantitative data on the computer program, and the statistical significance was set at the level of 0.05.
Results of the data analysis indicated that personal characteristics had an effect on the development to achieve the sustainability of the Bang Rachan Retro Market, as the tourists were satisfied with different aspects of the market including products and services, prices, places, and marketing promotion. However, they provided some suggestions for developing the tourism of the Bang Rachan Retro Market, such as adding more spaces to sit and relax, ensuring that the products and services meet the standard, and increasing the product variety. In addition, there were some elements and guidelines for making the Bang Rachan Retro Market to be sustainable. Such included developing the tourism potential, focusing more on products and services, PR , providing facilities for tourists, and conserving Thai culture and natural resources. In addition, the market should open the opportunity for the stakeholders to share opinions and should increase their participation. They should also preserve the local culture is unique to the community, should study both positive and negative effects of the tourism, should have a long- and short-term travel plan, and should create a proactive strategic plan to attract more tourists. According to the results received, the suggestion from this study is that there should be mix-method research conducted to get more in-depth information. In addition, the research should include studying other factors that may also affect tourists in order to promote tourism and to use the results to improve the market. More importantly, the research may also seek to gain data from foreign tourists.
