Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to analyze lexical bundles in the moves of English thesis abstract. The research methods were 1) The selection of 40 English thesis abstract of Thai graduate at the University of Phayao, published in Library Resources and Educational Media Center, University of Phayao from the year 2015-2016; 2) the research tool was lexical bundle analysis form adapted from Bhatia (1993) and Boonsirijarun (2014) in five moves. Consist of 1) Purpose of study 2) Research method 3) Research findings 4) Conclusion and 5) Recommendations. The statistics for data analysis were descriptive statistics: frequency and percentage. The results revealed that there were varieties of lexical bundles found in English thesis abstract. The bundles were ranged from two-word form to eleven-word form. It was also found that the highest frequency of lexical bundles in English abstract was found in Research method move (51.15%). On the other hand, there were 1.15% and 5.17% of lexical bundles found in Conclusion move and Recommendations move. It can be concluded that Research method move is an important component and comprise of more detailed information as compared with other moves. However, the Conclusion and Recommendations moves seem to be omitted by the writers from the English Thesis Abstract.
