Abstract:
This research aimed to 1) study the significance of problems in developing the teachers in private Islamic schools at Krabi, 2) compare the opinions about the problems in developing the teachers of private Islamic schools at Krabi classified by gender, educational background, work experience, and size of the school and 3) gather suggestions for developing the teachers of private Islamic schools at Krabi. The research sample consisted of 60 people and 6 key informants. The research instruments were 1) a 5-level rating scale questionnaire with a confidence of 0.95 and 2) an open ended questionnaire regarding suggestions for developing the teachers of private Islamic schools at Krabi. The collected data were analyzed to assess frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, independent sample t-tests, and one-way ANOVA F-tests, including multiple comparison tests by Scheffes method.
The results of the study are as follows :
1. The problem levels of developing the teachers of private Islamic schools at Krabi, in general and considering each aspect, was moderate.
2. With regard to the comparison of opinions towards teacher development, it was found that there was no difference between teachers with different genders, levels of education, years of experience, and sizes of school in all and each aspect.
3. Suggestions for developing the teachers of private Islamic schools at Krabi included that the academic administrators should attach great importance to teacher development by clearly setting strategies, missions, and goals. The plan should be completely followed. Budgets should be provided to support and promote teacher development successfully. Teacher development should be tracked and evaluated continuously in order to know the progress and any changes in the operation. All the data obtained should be used as guidelines to support the teachers so they can do their job successfully.
