Abstract:
Polymeric particles containing a low Tg polymer, polybutylacrylate (pBA), and a carboxyl group-containing polymer, polymethylacrylic acid (pMAA), were synthesized by the surfactant-free emulsion polymerization. FTIR spectra of the obtained particles indicated characteristic peaks of both BA and MAA confirming the successful synthesis of p(BA-co-MAA) particles. The effect of BA MAA monomer ratio on carboxyl group distribution of polymeric particles and the effect of polymeric particle concentrations on mechanical properties of peroxide prevulcanized natural rubber (PPNR) were investigated by conductometric titration and tensile test, respectively. The conductometric titration results of particle prepared by higher MAA content showed more carboxyl group distribution. Tensile strengths of PPNR were enhanced by increasing polymeric particle content. Addition of p(BA-co-MAA) particles in natural rubber may be useful for preparation of PPNR per silver nanocomposites by maintaining mechanical properties and simultaneously improving antibacterial properties of PPNR per Ag nanocomposites
