Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in seawater by GC-MS and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction
Abstract:
The optimum conditions for extraction of six PAHs in seawater sample using
dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) were studied. The naphthalene,
Acenaphthylene, Acenaphthene, Fluorene, Phenanthrene and Fluoranthene were separated by
gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Factors affected to extraction efficiency were carried
out. The solution of 560 μL of ethanol (disperser solvent) and 240 μL of dichloromethane
(extraction solvent) was rapidly injected into 10 mL of the seawater sample that consist of 1 g
of NaCl, thereby forming a cloudy solution. Phase separation was performed by
centrifugation and sedimented phase was analyzed by GCMS. Under the optimum
conditions, the limit of detection and the limit of quantification for the PAHs were in the
range of 9.3036.62 ng/L and 28.18110.97 ng/L, respectively. The correlation coefficients
(R2) obtained from calibration curves were in the range of 0.9827-0.9992. The precisions
were in the range of 2.429.93 %RSD (n=10) and recoveries were in the range of 46.64
90.67%. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of PAHs in
seawater samples.
