Abstract:
Coconut cream residue was obtained from coconut oil with extracted Curcuma longa production to be used for nile tilapia feeding. The objectives of this work were to determine antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, chemical composition of coconut cream residue and apply coconut cream residue in feed to raise nile tilapia. The antioxidant activities of coconut cream residue were assayed with DPPH and ABTS. Antioxidant activity from DPPH and ABTS method calculated as IC50, were found as 2.0 and 0.5 ug per mL for DPPH and ABTS method, respectively. Total phenolic content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method, and found as 1.21 mg GAE per g. Chemical composition of coconut cream residue such as protein, crude fat 35.61 g per 100g, carbohydrate 17.61 g per 100g, and energy was determined. In this work, coconut cream residue was applied in feed of Nile Tilapia to study growth rate of Nile Tilapia. The experiment was carried out by using circle concrete ponds systems with three treatment conditions T1 used pellet, T2 used 100 percent coconut cream residue and T3 used 60 percent pellet mixed with 40 percent coconut cream residue. It was found that feed of T3 had highest effect on growth rate of Nile Tilapia. Good survival rate was observed for all treatments. The results indicated that the coconut cream residue with high protein and high antioxidant was a potential feed for rearing the Nile Tilapia
