Abstract:
The independent study is to design and fabricate welding defects in specimens. The purposes of thisthesis are applying to use for training and certifying inspectors according to ASNT-TC-1A anddecreasing the number of import specimens. In the research, the material type is AISI 1025,fabricated by welding on groove weld in flat position and had been tested by non-destructive testingfollow ASME code section. To test and approve the position, the number, size and types of defects,the welding defects in the specimens are divided into two types. They are surface and weldmetaldefect. The surface defect in the specimen is surface crack which is varied by the amount of copperalloy in weldmetal. The results show that cracks are found in multidirection and not found by visualtesting. The position, size and the number of defects can not be controlled. In case of defects in theweldmetal, types of defect are longitudinal crack, lack of penetration, lack of side wall, slag andporosity. The result obtained from the radiographic testing found all three types of defect.Additionally, the position, size and quanltitative of defects can be controlled in the target.
