Environmentally friendly route of organic structure-directing agent free synthesis of medium-pore ZSM-23 zeolite catalyst
Abstract:
This research aims to develop the green synthesis of medium-pore ZSM-23 zeolite by adding the microcrystals of the sample in the absence of an organic structure-directing agent (OSDA). This method provides advantages over conventional method including avoiding the use of pyrrolidine as OSDA, lowering synthesis cost, requiring less energy, and suppressing emitted greenhouse gas. The OSDA-free ZSM-23 can be successfully prepared to obtain the product in 50 percent yield, comparable yield to that of the conventional ZSM-23 (55 percent). OSDA-free ZSM-23 in an as-synthesized form shows specific surface area and pore volume of 112 m2 per g and 0.15 cm3 per g, respectively. These values are slightly less than those of the conventional ZSM- 23 (129 m2 per g and 0.21 cm3 per g). The Si per Al molar ratio of this material (35) prepared from this method is lower than that of the conventional ZSM-23 (44). This could improve the catalytic activity because of its higher aluminium content. The catalytic test of n-heptane hydroconversion of OSDA-free 0.27Pt per H-ZSM-23 shows higher activity of hydroconversion to hydrocracking product over the conventional ZSM-23
