Abstract:
This thesis mainly focused on studying the factors relating to the roles and duties of the Buddhist monks in developing the quality of life in the benefits of people obtainable here and now. It was conducted by the mixed methods both quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative method was conducted by the questionnaires from the 375 samples around the temples in Maesai Sub-district and the qualitative by interviewing the abbots and community leaders totally 20 informants.The study revealed that the roles and duties of the Buddhist monks in the religious education were in medium level, in the religious education supports were in the less level, in the propagation of Buddhism were in the less level, in the constructions and reparations as well as the public welfare were in the highest level. To develop the quality of life in accordance with the benefits obtainable here and now, the benefit for oneself was in the medium level, the benefit for others in the medium level, and the benefits for both oneself and others in a high level. For the factors relating to the 5 roles and duties leading to developing the quality of life according to the benefits obtainable here and now were significant at the level 0.05. As a result of interview, it was found that the roles and duties of monks in 5 aspects were due to the policy of the Council of the Elder implemented by the abbots. The monks rendered helping hands for the community activities in developing the quality of life accordance with principle of benefits obtainable here and now. However, they ought to render the helping hands continuously and widely, especially to those who were really in needs. For the community leaders, they reflected that they all went hands in hands along with the monks in all aspect of developing the quality of life for the people."
