Selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol over Ni supported on titania
Abstract:
In this work, the catalytic performances of 15 wt Ni impregnated on titania were investigated in the liquid phase hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. The TiO2 supports were varied in terms of phase composition and average crystallite sizes, rutile, rutile, anatase and anatase. The catalysts were characterized by various techniques such as X-ray diffraction, N2-physisorption, transmission electron spectroscopy, H2-temperature programmed reduction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Under the reaction conditions used, the highest furfural conversion at 65.69 percent with FA selectivity 66.74 percent and FA yield 43.84 percent were obtained after reaction time 2 h using a 15 percent Ni TiO2-A2 catalyst. The best catalyst performances were correlated to the appropriate NiO particle size and Ni-TiO2 interaction
