Abstract:
This research is explanatory research using a cross-sectional study. Its objective was to find the associations between managerial competency and managerial effectiveness of health promoting hospital directors in the health service network, Region 6. The sample group was composed of 250 health promoting hospital directors selected through simple random sampling. The data collection tool was a questionnaire. A total of 233 questionnaires (93.20%) were analyzed. Pearsons product-moment correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that health promoting hospital directors in the health service network in Region 6 had a very high level of managerial effectiveness and high level of managerial competency. Managerial competency had a moderately positive association with the effectiveness of health promoting hospital directors (r = 0.503, p-value < 0.05). Developing others regarding impact and influence and in directing could explain 31.10% (adjusted R2 = .311, p-value < 0.05) of the variance of health promoting hospital directors. According to this research, the Provincial Public Health Office in the health service network, Region 6 should establish a policy for the hospital directors to undergo training in developing others regarding impact and influence, and in directing, all of which affect organizational effectiveness systematically. It should also establish a policy to promote self-assessment in the aspects of team leadership, interpersonal understanding, achievement orientation, and organizational awareness every year.
