STEM education on biochemistry of grade 12 students
Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study the STEM Education on Biochemistry of Grade 12 Students. The sample consisted of Mathayom Suksa 6-2 students, Kanarassadonbamrung School, Yala, Muang District, Yala Province, Academic year 2018, 30 students. The tools used in this research consisted of 1) 2 learning plans according to the STEM Education using the problem solving process according to the engineering process which is divided into 6 steps as follows: 1. Problem Identification 2. Related Information Search 3. Solution Design. 4. Planning and Development. 5. Testing, Evaluation and Design Improvement 6. Method Presentation. The tools used for data analysis are student achievement form and students work pieces. The results showed that: 1. Problem Identification, students can consider and understand the situation of the problem when making Onsen eggs. The experiment on the making of Onsen eggs and the packaging process, analyze the conditions of the problem situation in order to determine the extent of the problem which will lead to the methods for solving problems and creating work pieces 2. Related Information Search. Students gathered information and scientific concepts. Mathematics and technology related to problem solving methods with information retrieval process. Protein conversion experiment the properties of carbohydrates, the properties of cellulose, analyze, summarize and evaluate possibilities, advantages and limitations under the conditions. 3. Solution Design, students can apply the information and related concepts to the procedure of the making of Onsen eggs and the packaging from the cellulose found in the local under the set conditions 4. Planning and Development, students can set the procedure, and experiment methods of making Onsen eggs and the packaging process. 5. Testing, Evaluation and Design Improvement, students choose additional materials such as flour, tissues, and salt, record the results, compose graph of the relationship between temperature and time to find the best methods and create innovations that will lead to the making of Onsen eggs in a more convenient way. Test improve, fix, evaluate and beautify the packaging to be user friendly. 6. Method Presentation., students presented their work, discussed the use of knowledge to determine the selling price, cost-profit calculation, learning management according to stem education, resulting in students having knowledge, understanding and able to perform activities according to the STEM education
