Abstract:
The study was carried out some problems of solar hot water system in Thailand such as technical problems and the performences of existing units. It could be used for studying and planning of solar energy utilization especially solar hot water system in the future. Over 20 existing systems which installed in hotels and hospitals in different parts of Thailand have been investigated. Most of the systems are forced-convection types with electrical auxiliary heaters. Mostly required hot water temperature about 50-60ํC. From the survey, we found that most of the systems had no well-trained officer-in-charge to look after the systems. Poor maintenance have been found not only the solar collectors, the storage tanks and the deteriorated pipe insulation but also the auxiliary controls and the collector orientation. The systems efficiencies of some solar hot water units are evaluated from the useful heat and the solar radiation during a day. The efficiencies are about 13-37% and are about 20-48% when the auxiliary power is included. The efficiencies depend on the uniformity and the amount of hot water consumed. Good uniformity with high amount of water consumed results in high daily efficiency
