Abstract:
The purposes of this research were aimed 1) to analyze parenting styles in Hmong hill tribe population, and 2) to compare factor relationship including six, age, educational level, and kindred status that influenced the parenting styles. The populations were 163 Hmong parents in Khunchangkian village, Chiangmai. The research instruments were a questionnaire and an observation form. The data were analyzed by using Z-scores, Chi-square test and content analysis. The research results indicated that: 1. Parenting style in Hmong hill tribe population were the authoritative parenting style (38.04 percentage); the authoritarian parenting style (22.09 percentage), uninvolved parenting style (21.47 percentage), and permissive parenting style (18.40 percentage) respectively. The behaviors reflecting the authoritative parenting style related to demanding aging appropriated behaviors, having clear family rules and disciplines, motivating children to follow the rules, showing love and warm supports, having clear two-way communication, promoting children self-assurance and self-reliance, respecting for the right of both children and parents, and using reward rather than punishment. 2. The factor relationship which influenced the parenting style was kindred status. Hmong parents, whose status were uncle, aunt, and grandfather, were the authoritative parenting style at the statistically significant level of .05.
